【摘要】:Theguidelinespresentedinthispracticeforretainingsignificantdigitsandroundingnumbersmaybeadoptedbytheusingagencyoruser.Generally,theiradoptionshouldbeusedforcalculatingandrecordingdatawhenspecifiedrequirementsarenotincludedinastandard.Theguidelinespresentedhereinshouldnotbeinterpretedasabsoluterulesbutasguidestocalculateandreportobservedortestdatawithoutexaggeratingordegradingtheaccuracyofthevalues.4.2.1Theguidelinespresentedemphasizerecordingdatatoenoughsignificantdigitsornumberofdecimalplacestoallowsensitivityandvariabilityanalysestobeperformed,see3.2.1.1Thispracticeisintendedtopromoteuniformityinrecordingsignificantdigitsformeasuredandcalculatedvaluesinvolvinggeotechnicaldata.Theguidelinespresentedareindustrystandard,andarerepresentativeofthesignificantdigitsthatshouldgenerallyberetained.Theguidelinesdonotconsidermaterialvariation,purposeforobtainingthedata,specialpurposestudies,oranyconsiderationsfortheuser''sobjectives;anditiscommonpracticetoincreaseorreducesignificantdigitsofreporteddatatobecommensuratewiththeseconsiderations.Itisbeyondthescopeofthispracticetoconsidersignificantdigitsusedinanalysismethodsforengineeringdesign..1.1.1Usingsignificantdigitsingeotechnicaldatainvolvestheprocessesofcollecting,calculating,andrecordingeithermeasuredvaluesorcalculatedvalues(results),orboth.1.2Thispracticeacceptsavariationofthetraditionalroundingmethodthatrecognizesthealgorithmcommontomosthand-heldcalculators,see.Thetraditionalroundingmethod(see)isinaccordancewithPracticeE29orIEEE/ASTMSI10.1.3Thispracticeoffersasetofinstructionsforperformingoneormorespecificoperations.Thisdocumentcannotreplaceeducationorexperienceandshouldbeusedinconjunctionwithprofessionaljudgment.Notallaspectsofthispracticemaybeapplicableinallcircumstances.ThisASTMstandardisnotintendedtorepresentorreplacethestandardofcarebywhichtheadequacyofagivenprofessionalservicemustbejudged,norshouldthisdocumentbeappliedwithoutconsiderationofaproject''smanyuniqueaspects.Theword"Standard"inthetitleofthisdocumentmeansonlythatthedocumenthasbeenapprovedthroughtheASTMconsensusprocess.
