【摘要】:Formostapplications,thisenvironmentprovidesanacceleratedmethodofrankingtherelativedegreeofstress-corrosioncrackingsusceptibilityforstainlesssteelsandrelatedalloysinaqueouschloride-containingenvironments.Materialsthatnormallyprovideacceptableresistanceinhotchlorideservicemaycrackinthistest.Thetestmaynotberelevanttostress-corrosioncrackinginpolythionicacidorcausticenvironments.Resistancetostress-corrosioncrackinginboilingmagnesiumchloride(155.0x00B0;C(311.0x00B0;F))should,wherepossible,becorrelatedtoresistanceinserviceforthematerialsofinterest.However,suchcorrelationsmaynotalwaysbepossible.Boilingmagnesiumchloridemayalsocausepittingofmanystainlessalloys.Thisleadstothepossibilityofconfusingstress-corrosionfailureswithmechanicalfailuresinducedbycorrosion-reducednetcrosssections.Thisdangerisparticularlygreatwhensmallcrosssectionsamples,highappliedstresslevels,longexposureperiods,stress-corrosionresistantalloys,oracombinationthereofarebeingused.Carefulexaminationisrecommendedforcorrectdiagnosisofthecauseoffailure.1.1Thispracticedescribesaprocedureforconductingstress-corrosioncrackingtestsinaboilingmagnesiumchloridesolution.Althoughthistestmaybeperformedusingvariousconcentrationsofmagnesiumchloride,thisprocedurecoversatestsolutionheldataconstantboilingtemperatureof155.01.0176;C(311.01.8176;F).TheboilingpointsofaqueousmagnesiumchloridesolutionsatoneatmospherepressureasafunctionofconcentrationareshowngraphicallyinFig.1.Asuggestedtestapparatuscapableofmaintainingsolutionconcentrationandtemperaturewithintheprescribedlimitsforextendedperiodsoftimeisalsodescribedherein.1.2Theboilingmagnesiumchloridetestisapplicabletowrought,cast,andweldedstainlesssteelsandrelatedalloys.Itisamethodfordetectingtheeffectsofcomposition,heattreatment,surfacefinish,microstructure,andstressonthesusceptibilityofthesematerialstochloridestresscorrosioncracking.1.3Thispracticeisconcernedprimarilywiththetestsolution,whichmaybeusedwithavarietyofstresscorrosiontestspecimens,surfacefinishes,andmethodsofapplyingstress.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.SeeSectionforspecificsafetyprecautions.
