【摘要】:Thisreportisintendedtoassistintheplanning,design,installationandsystemtestingofthestandardCSMA/CD*basebandLAN,accordingtoDraftInternationalStandardISO/DIS8802/3.Themaincomponentofthetransmissionmedium,atrunkcableofuniquedesignandspecification,requiresnospecialinstallationtechniques.Inadditiontothepassivetrunkcablethenetworksystemcomprisesterminators,dropcables,mediumattachmentunit(MAU)andrepeaters.Theseitems,onceinstalledandconnectedtogetherconstitutethetransmissionmediumthatsupportsthelocalareanetwork(LAN).Simplicityofinstallationandflexibilityoflayoutareimportantcharacteristicsoftheapproachinprovidingahigh-performance,high-integritylocalareanetwork.Equallyimportantistheeasewithwhichasystemmaybeenlargedtocopewithexpandingneeds.Asmallnetworksystemconcentratedononefloor,supportingasmallnumberofdataterminalequipments(DTEs)maybeprogressivelyenlargedtoafinalsystemservicinganentiremulti-storeybuildingwithupto1024unitsofdataterminalequipments(seeAppendixC).SuchasystemmayalsobeconnectedtoremoteDTEsofsystemsviaacommunicationsgatewayandexternaltransmissionlines.Clearly,theplanningandinstallationactivitywillvarygreatlydependingonthesizeandcomplexityofthesystem.Successfulnetworkoperationistheend-productofgoodandthoroughplanning.Theplannerwillevaluatetherestrictionsimposedbythebuildinglease,typeofstructure,facilitiesrequirements,healthandsafetyregulations,equipmentlocationandquantity,cableperformancespecifications,floorplanandbudget.Thekeyactivitiesconsistentwiththeaboveare:toplananddesignthecablerouteaccordingtothedistributionoftheDTEs;toinstallthenetworkhardware;totestthenetworkhardware.
