【摘要】:Watercancausethedegradationofcoatings,soknowledgeofhowacoatingresistswaterishelpfulforassessinghowitwillperforminactualservice.Failureintestsat100%relativehumiditymaybecausedbyanumberoffactorsincludingadeficiencyinthecoatingitself,contaminationofthesubstrate,orinadequatesurfacepreparation.Thispracticeisthereforeusefulforevaluatingcoatingsaloneorcompletecoatingsystems.Testsat100%relativehumidityareusedforspecificationacceptance,qualitycontrol,andresearchanddevelopmentforcoatingsandsubstratetreatments.Sometestsareusedforapassorfaildeterminationatanarbitrarytime.Acoatingsystemisconsideredtopassifthereisnoevidenceofwater-relatedfailureafteraperiodoftime.Othertestsareusedtomonitordegreeoffailureasafunctionofexposuretime.Arbitrarypass/faillevelsandthetestdurationsrequiredaretypicallysetinothermaterialspecifictestmethods.Usersofthispracticealonemayusetheknownperformanceofthecontrolstosettestendpoints.Anotheroptionistocontinuethetestuntilallspecimenshavefailed,andusethetimetoreachfailureasawaytodifferentiateperformance.Resultsobtainedfromtheuseof100%humiditytestsinaccordancewiththispracticeshouldnotberepresentedasbeingequivalenttoaperiodofexposuretowaterinthenaturalenvironment,untilthedegreeofquantitativecorrelationhasbeenestablishedforthecoatingorcoatingsystem.Thetestchambercanbeasmalllaboratorycabinetoraroomlargeenoughtoholdanautomobileoratruck.Someautomobilemanufacturerstestcompletedvehiclesinroomsmaintainedat100%relativehumidity.1.1Thispracticecoversthebasicprinciplesandoperatingproceduresfortestingwaterresistanceofcoatingsbyexposingcoatedspecimensinanatmospheremaintainedat100%relativehumiditysothatcondensationformsonthetestspecimens.1.2Thispracticeusesthetechniqueofcreatingaslighttemperaturedifferentialwithintheexposureareatoformcondensationonthecoatedspecimens.Asthewarmersaturatedairpassesthecoolerspecimens,waterisdepositedontothespecimensintheformofcondensation.1.3Thispracticeplacestheentirespecimenintheexposureareaallowingcondensationtoformonallsurfaces.Thismakesthispracticesuitableforflatpanelsaswellaslargeor3Dobjects.Thispracticediffersfromothermethodswherecondensationisonlyformedonthefrontcoatingsurface,butthebacksurfaceisoutsidetheexposurearea.Othertestsmayalsodepositwaterdropletsonthesurfacebutwherethesourceisnotfromcondensation.Note18212;AlternativepracticesfortestingthewaterresistanceofcoatingsincludePracticesD870,D1735,andD4585.1.4Thispracticeislimitedtothemethodsofobtaining,measuring,andcontrollingtheconditionsandproceduresoftestsconductedin100%relativehumidity.Itdoesnotspecifyspecimenpreparation,orevaluationofresults.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
